Drink a coke with you
than to go to San Sebastian, Irun, Bianitz, Bayonne
or getting sick in the middle of the Traversera de Gracia in Barcelona
partly because with this orange shirt you look like Saint Sebastian, but more credible, happier
partly because of the discretion with which we smile at each other if there are people or in front of statues
when you are there I can hardly believe that there are things so immobile and so solemn
as unpleasantly definitive as the statues and just when standing in front of them
In the warm New York o'clock light we drift back and forth
from one to the other like a breathing tree with glasses
so much so that you suddenly wonder why anyone ever painted them
I look at you
and I would rather go on looking at you than all the pictures in the world
with the exception perhaps, sometimes, of the Polish Knight who is in any case at Frick
and which thank goodness you haven't seen yet so we can be together the first time you see it
and then with the fact that you are so beautiful in your movements we can almost do without Futurism
and even at home I never think of the Nude Descending a Staircase nor, at the rehearsals,
to this or that drawing by Leonardo or Michelangelo that once left me breathless
and what purpose did all those experiments serve to the Impressionists?
since they never found the right person to pose
near a tree with the sun setting or if it gives me so much
to Marino Marini who chose the horse well but not the rider
I would say that everyone missed out on an experience
wonderful but it won't go to waste with me and that's why I'm telling you about it.
